Bathroom

If this is your only bathroom you really have to get the most out of it. Look at your plans and set your budget. Bathroom equipment can be bought at very good prices if you are not too fussy and will take show room models or wait for the sales.

One very important thing that you have do when building your bathroom is to make sure that it is completely waterproof, so take extra precautions as far as leaks. A bath or shower tray that leaks can cause you a lot of problems with the structure of your house and could cost you substantial amount of money.

Tiles: Your bathroom is a very wet place and although there is a wide choice of good wall papers and paints that are suitable for bathrooms the only true way to decorate this room is with tiles. These used to be very expensive but the prices have come right down and there is a large variety of colours and styles. Think about what colour your bathroom suite is going to be. Try to keep neutral colours so that if in the future you want to redecorate you can match up. Tiles & Tiling

Suite or Separates? Is this going to be your only bathroom? If so you have to get everything in here and still allow yourself room to move. Do you want to have a bath with a shower in it or do you want to have a shower unit and a bath or do you want to have just a shower unit? Do bare in mind that you should make your bathroom suitable for a disable person.

Toilet and sinks: There are lots of different style of toilets on the market now. There are even toilets that washes and dries your bum before you get off the loo. How much to you have to spend? You can get a toilet and sink for under €200. Do you want to have two sinks in this room?, maybe a small one for the man of the house to shave in and a vanity style for the kids to wash their faces in. Have you thought about a bidet?, many modern bathroom have them.

Towel Rails: Stop the family towels staying damp and invest in a towel rail. If it is some thing that you think you might use then shop around and see what you can get but remember that you have to have it wired in and leave the space for it. You should also have rails for dry towels and don’t forget the toilet roll holder.

Storage Space: This is a very important area for the bathroom. Make sure that any cupboard that you buy or build is well ventilated as there is always a lot of damp here that can go towards Condensation & Mould.  Keep bleaches and other chemicals on the highest shelf and if possible lock them away so that they do not get into the wrong hands. Do you need some where to store toilet rolls and nappies? Do you need to store damp sponges and shampoo?.

Floor covering: Tiles or limo should be the choice here. If you go for tiles think about a bathroom set so that no one has to stand on a cold floor, but do not put carpet in here as it can get very dirty and can not be cleaned easily. Floor coverings.

Mirror and Shaving Point: This room is ideal for placing a mirror and of course the shaving point above it. Do you need a mirror that keeps its self free of condensation? Do you want a mirror that has a built in medicine cabinet behind it?
