Most people who know anything about plants will have heard of the Pansy. There are no end to the colours that is plant can come in crimson, orange, white, yellow, blue and every colour in between.

A lot of the beauty of this plant is the contrasting colours that can been seen just on one stem. These little plants are very hardy and in the right place will grow and re-seed themselves for many years to come.

There are two main groups of pansy, winter - flowering which are in bloom from late autumn to early spring and the summer - flowering type which show their bloom from May to September. Growing well in containers or borders they can quite easily spread up to 9 in, in height and 9 in, in width with foliage

You can use pansies in flower arrangements, they ideal for a small container. The soft stems should be cut with a sharp knife to avoid bruising them and to allow the heads to show off their beauty dip the heads in water for a few minute before arranging.

Pansies are very easy plants to dry and are used to complement a photo frame, they keep their colour during this process. Drying can be done in two different ways, by either lying each flower head flat between some kitchen towel and putting this either inside a flower press or between the pages of a heavy book for up to eight weeks. The other way of drying flowers and also keeping their shape is to place the heads in dry silicon crystals and leave them for the recommended period of time.

The flowers can also be crystallised and used for cake decoration.
