Second Fixes

This is when you really start to feel that you could be moving in soon. Your long lived dream is nearly a reality. After all of the plastering is finished and the floors are down comes your second fix. The electrician puts all of your light switches into place and wires in all of your light fittings. All of the sockets are wired in and any little holes with wires hanging out of them are finished off. Cookers and boilers are connected and everything is wired into the fuse box and outside meter box. When the electrician job is finished he will give you a CERT to give to the ESB who in their own time will come and connect you to the mains.

The carpenter has to come back and fix all your internal doors, handle’s, architrave’s, skirting boards, cabinets, stairs railings and so on. Do not try to save money by buying cheap material doors or cabinets. You might be saving money initially but over the long term it would cost you a lot more and it never looks good. Always try and go for natural timber and if you are buying wooden doors, make sure that it is from a reputable company. If the timber is not treated properly, there is always a chance that the door or cabinet could warp after a while. Visit showrooms and ask about options available to you.

At this stage, the plumber also comes back and puts your boiler into place and plumbs in any radiators required. Bathroom suites are plumbed with the taps and shower heads ready to work. By the end of this fix you should have running water, flushing toilets and working sinks, the heating system should be ready to switch on. All of your Home networking should be ready to use.
