Sound Insulation
This is one area that many self builders do not consider until it is almost too late. With the latest technologies and different types of construction, it is possible to stop most if not all sound traveling into your house. Most houses these days are built to a high specification with all sorts of heating insulation in the walls, roofs and floors and usually with the help of double or triple glazing we manage to keep most of the outside sounds out. Whether it is the cars passing your front door or the neighbors playing loud music at night, with the right method of construction this should no longer bother you.
However while this has solved the problem with the outside noise, we now also have the technology to stop the noise within the building. You might have a teenage son or daughter that love to play their music loud or young children that enjoy screaming while playing or the sound of the loud TV playing that movie you hate in the living room or so on and on.
The first thing that you need to do after you have chosen the types of construction is to find out what kind of sound insulation is available to you that would suit your particular build. Ask your builder or your local builders merchant about advice on how to stop this noise traveling within the building. If you want it done properly, it is always best to get the professional companies in and they would advice you on the best methods and materials available to you.
There are a lot of options available to you and you should look at your budget and go for te best that you can afford. Remember, this is something that would work out cheaper for you if it is done at the construction stage rather that later when the house has been finished.
Some of the materials used to stop sound traveling are rockwool , sheep wool or fiberglass.
There are also panels that can be installed to help with sound proofing.
