Sun pipe

During the design process of your new home you might start to feel limited on where you can place your rooms towards the middle of the house because there would be no natural light leaving hallways connecting rooms dark.

If you either do not like or can not get planning permission for Velux windows there is another option open to you that allows natural light to be reflected into the dark areas of your rooms, it is the light or sun pipe.

Being quite a simple idea the sun pipe has been around in America for a number of years but has just started to find it’s way into Ireland.

What is a Sun Pipe?

Basically a poly carbonate dome is placed on a piece of flashing plate over a hole in the roof. A sun pipe is connected to the plate on different angles to help bend the light, then a longer straight pipe is added with the recessed diffuser, which then fits on the ceiling in the area that the light is required.

For night time this can also be adapted to have electrical lights attached, allowing an extra use for it.

No matter what kind of design challenges you are considering, Reward insulating concrete form (ICF) construction has the answers.
