The Greener Homes Scheme

The Greener Homes Scheme is now available and provides assistance to homeowners who intend to purchase a new renewable energy heating system for either new or existing homes. The scheme is administered by Sustainable Energy Ireland and aims to increase the use of sustainable energy technologies within Irish homes.

How do you qualify?

There are certain conditions that you have to meet to qualify for The Greener Home Scheme in advanve of any aproval of the grant and they are as follows:

  • Applicant must be the homeowner i.e. must have full possession of the property where the system is to be installed
  • The applicant must ensure grant approval is received before proceeding with any product purchase (including deposit payments) or installation work.
  • Applicant must fully complete the Greener Homes Application Form (the “Application Form”) with information valid at time of application
  • Applicant must supply bank account and sort code details to facilitate electronic payment of the grant
  • Applicant agrees to be bound by the Terms and Conditions of the Scheme (see Section 11 of application guide above)
  • Product must be listed, at the date of application, on the Registered Product List.
  • Installer must be listed, at the date of application, on the Registered Installer List or be prepared to meet the criteria (see Section 6 of the application guide above) for inclusion on this list.(Where the installer is not on the list, customers are advised to have their installer apply immediately.)

It may be possible to apply for a second grant where the combination of green energy technologies makes sense in terms of reduced overall CO2 intensity, capital costs, value for money and operating service and in these circumstances two grants are available for a combination of these technologies.

They are:

  • Solar Space and Solar Hot Water Heating (to a maximum collector area of 12 m2) Wood Chip or Pellet Stove with Integral Boiler and Solar Space Heating (to a maximum collector area of 12 m2) Wood Chip or Pellet Stove for room heating and Solar Hot Water Heating (to a maximum collector area of 6m2) Heat Pump and Solar Hot Water (to a maximum collector area of 6m2) Wood Chip or Pellet Boiler and Solar Hot Water (to a maximum collector area of 6m2)

These combinations will be eligible for two grants; however applicants should note that the use of such combinations requires careful engineering and integration of control systems to ensure that environmental benefits are achieved.

Where an applicant wishes to get grant support for such permitted combinations a separate application must be made for each product.
